Primary audience: Distributors and counter staff
Start with the room and the existing fixture
A request for a four-foot LED light is not enough to choose between a wraparound and a linear strip. Identify the room, mounting surface, supply, present fixture and lighting problem. A corridor, support room and storage aisle may require different distribution and control decisions.
A wraparound uses a diffuser that covers the light source and extends around the fixture's sides. A linear strip is a narrow linear luminaire. In this guide, strip means a complete commercial fixture, not flexible adhesive LED tape. Those products have different installation and specification requirements.
Housing shape helps identify candidates, but it does not establish glare performance or delivered illumination. Review the complete fixture's optical data and how occupants see it. A diffuser is not a universal guarantee of comfortable light at every mounting height.
For replacement work, photograph the existing body and connection location. Measure the space available and note any ceiling marks the old fixture conceals. These practical details belong beside the electrical and lighting requirements so the distributor can identify a complete, installable configuration.
Compare the documented family differences
| Selection item | Wraparound | SP05 linear strip |
|---|---|---|
| Published model lengths | Approximately 2 ft and 4 ft | 2 ft, 4 ft and 8 ft model rows |
| Power | 20 W or 40 W model rows | Selectable; settings vary by model |
| Colour rendering | CRI 80 or 90 variants | Ra greater than 80 |
| CCT information | 5-CCT; temperatures not enumerated | Temperatures listed by model |
| Input voltage | Not published in the model table | Driver ranges listed in model rows |
The wraparound page publishes a polycarbonate diffuser and white finish. Its model rows measure 24.49 or 47.4 inches long. There is no published 8-foot wraparound model. Do not turn a desired project length into an assumed product option.
The SP05 page contains several power configurations within the same nominal length. Read the full model row before selecting output, settings or input options. The ordering block also mentions size choices; use a published model row to establish the actual configuration rather than inferring an undocumented model.
Compare output at the selected configuration
The wraparound model table publishes 4,000 lm for Z-FLWR4R80 and 3,400 lm for Z-FLWR4R90. Both are 40 W, while their published CRI values differ. Choose the required colour-rendering variant and use its corresponding output in the design.
SP05 maximum-output figures are a different kind of entry. For example, SP05-4FT50W-H-TCP publishes a 7,500 lm maximum and selectable 50 / 35 / 30 / 25 / 20 W. Do not assign that maximum to every lower setting or calculate unprinted performance as if it were documented.
Evaluate whether the proposed distribution reaches the task. Shelves can require attention to vertical surfaces as well as the floor. Workbench locations, room finishes and the fixture's height also affect the result. A one-for-one exchange by length does not establish equivalent illumination.
IES guidance on task surfaces explains that recommendations follow the actual visual task location. Give the designer the room layout and task information so the comparison addresses what occupants need to see, rather than only the catalogue lumen totals.
Check mounting, wiring and accessories before ordering
The SP05 page identifies surface mounting as standard and suspended mounting as an option. It lists mounting clips, suspension wire rope, connectors and other accessories with their own inclusion notes. Identify the mounting method and required parts in the order.
A connector does not establish an unlimited continuous run. Where a linked arrangement is proposed, have the electrician review the exact accessories, connected load and installation instructions. Record the run layout and supply points. Keep those checks separate from the nominal fixture length.
The wraparound model table does not publish input voltage. Resolve that information before ordering for an existing circuit. Do not copy an SP05 input range into the wraparound schedule. Likewise, SP05 lists input ranges as configuration choices; the delivered driver's rating must match the supply.
The wraparound page publishes damp-location suitability. That does not establish a washdown or hazardous-location application. For either family, describe moisture, dust, temperature and cleaning conditions to the specifying professional. An application name such as utility room cannot substitute for the actual exposure conditions and documented product limits.
Send a complete selection request to the distributor
Counter staff can organise the request around one fixture tag per distinct condition. Separate what is known from what needs confirmation. A missing voltage or unlisted mounting method should remain an open question, rather than disappearing behind a generic description.
- Describe the room, task, dimensions, mounting height and relevant obstructions.
- Attach existing fixture labels, photographs and mounting measurements.
- Confirm the circuit voltage and required control behaviour.
- Identify the exact proposed model, output setting, CCT and CRI variant.
- List mounting, suspension, connector and sensor requirements separately.
- Record unresolved product information and who will confirm it.
Send the schedule through RFQ with quantities and any restrictions on substitutions. Ask the specifying engineer to review lighting performance where the task or layout changes. A complete request makes the remaining questions clear before installation begins.
After installation, give maintenance staff the model schedule and selected settings. For selectable strips, record the actual configuration by location. For wraparounds, preserve the CRI variant and approved colour choice so later replacements do not unintentionally change the room's appearance or output.
